Step 1. Repent
Jesus said in Luke Chapter 13:5 “I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.” The Apostle Peter echoed this on the Day of Pentecost in Acts Chapter 2:38 “Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.” In order for you to obtain pardon and forgiveness of sins, you must demonstrate and exercise genuine repentance. To repent is to: acknowledge; confess and forsake all sin. The word “repentance” means a change of views and purpose, change of heart, change of mind, change of life, and transformation. (Matthew 3:2; Mark 1:15; Luke 13:5; Revelation 2:5)
Practical Application: How do I repent? Answer: When you hear someone share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with you, there will be a conviction in your soul. You will feel bad about the “state” (condition) that you are currently in. You will then acknowledge that you are a sinner, and you are lost and on your way to hell for eternity. Then when presented with the True Gospel of Jesus Christ you will TURN towards the understanding that He is your salvation. This is simply “repentance”.
Action: What do I do? Answer: You will now consciously and physically express this condition by prayer to Him. You will bow yourself in contrition and confess that you are a sinner on your way to hell. You will then acknowledge that He is the way! the truth! and the life! You will then physically verbally express that you repent both mentally and physically. At this point we will move on to the next step. Continue to step 2.
Step 2. Confess
The Bible says in 1 John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” If we repent and confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us of our sins. Furthermore, if we confess with our mouth Jesus as Lord and believe in our hearts that God raised Him from the dead, then we shall be saved. (I John 1:9; Romans 10:9; 10)
Practical Application: How do I confess my sins and confess Jesus as Lord? Answer: During the action of repentance, you will shift into confession. Confession is vitally important in the process of salvation. When you confess your sin, you are physically confirming that you acknowledge your sin and your sinful “state”. You come to a very real understanding that you are totally at the end of your rope. You have come to the end of it all. You essentially come to the end of yourself. Now to move forward in the newness of life you will then confess Jesus as your Lord and Savior. This signifies that you are confirming that He is Lord, and that you pledge your life to follow Him only.
Action: How do I confess? Answer: You will now verbally admit that you are a sinner, and that you have committed a life of sins. You will then verbally state that you accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior from now to eternity!
Step 3. Accept
The final step of acceptance is the seal of consecration. This involves water baptism and the baptism of the Holy Ghost. Water baptism is the physical expression of the inward work of redemption and regeneration. The scriptural mode of water baptism is immersion in water, and is only for those who have fully repented, having turned from their sins and a love of the world. Water baptism represents the death, burial, and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. As a believer, we are dead, in that, we have put off the body of the sins of the flesh, we are buried with Him, and we are risen with Him to walk in the newness of life. (Matthew 28:19; Acts 2:38; 8:16; 10:48; 19:5; Colossians 2:11,12)
Practical Application: How do I accept Jesus Christ? Answer: Now that you have fully repented, and confessed that Jesus is Lord and Savior, and verbally made a vow of faith to follow Him the rest of your life, you need to accept Him. At this point you will accept that Jesus Christ has forgiven you of your sins, and you are right now totally free from the damnation of hell. The next step is to physically signify this by the act of consecration by water baptism. You will now proceed to be baptized in water in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of your sins as a public declaration and testimony of your conversion experience. After that, you will then position your heart and ask God to fill you with the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. When you receive the Baptism of the Holy Spirit the physical confirmation will be Speaking in Tongues as the Spirit gives you the utterance. This will complete the process. You will then need to follow the Biblical Apostolic teachings of the Word of God. You will need to join a Church, follow the teachings, give regular offerings, and participate in fellowship and breaking of bread.
Action: How do I accept Jesus? Answer: You will acknowledge in your heart that you are forgiven. You will verbally vow to follow Jesus all the days of your life. You will then proceed to be baptized in water (full immersion) by a Spirit filled pastor or minister in the name of Jesus Christ. You will then pray to receive the mighty Baptism of the Holy Spirit. When you receive the Baptism of the Holy Spirit this will be signified by the physical expression of speaking in an unknown language. This is called “Speaking in Tongues”. You will then be filled with the Spirit of God and will live a life of holiness before the Lord.
Final Note: You cannot receive salvation through Jesus Christ by simply saying some little prayer on a website and submitting some little card or form. This is false doctrine in the modern church of today. Therefore, you have church leaders claiming to have led thousands of people to Christ with little to show for it. Your conversion experience is vitally important. This experience should be live, by an anointed man of God, and with direct follow up for baptism and fellowship. So, in closing, to truly receive Jesus Christ you need to respond to the Biblical Gospel when it is preached to you. If it is not preached to you, you will then need to go where it is preached.
